Considering travel to receive medical treatment during Corona times?

January 13, 2021

Medical tourism has been a rapidly evolving area in the tourism industry but was confronted with manifold obstacles for quite a while now. As COVID-19 has its strong grip around all of us, we hope to get through this tough situation quickly and especially healthy.

Yet, in times when health should come first, many of you put yours on hold.

Being afraid that travel can increase the chance of spreading and getting COVID-19, we are leaving one fact out of sight: essential travel. And when suffering from pain, orthopaedic injuries and/or conditions, etc., seeking the right treatment abroad becomes essential and can be done in a safe manner.

Let’s look at some facts:

Travelling in your own vehicle is the most safest way to get around these days. Being located in Brussels, Belgium, we are in driving distance from many places around Europe.

If unable to travel by car, please note, that all transit based companies have set new restrictions for travellers that must be followed:

  • PCR tests are obligatory for every traveler before any trip
  • Travel companies use online or contactless reservations and check-ins, as well as contactless payment methods to reduce the spread of the virus
  • Frequently touched surfaces are desinfecated according to all requirements and regulations
  • Before any trip people are instructed to offen wash and desinfecate hands, keep social distancing, wear mask
  • Non-essential travel is prohibited, resulting in less people around, short or even no cues at the airports, train or bus stations
  • Most viruses and other germs do not spread easily on flights because of certain air circulation systems and filters on airplanes

When travelling to Oreme for your medical treatment, we assure to provide you with every information and/or assistance needed:

  • Advice on where to stay in Brussels, Belgium
  • Providing required travel documents to enter Belgium
  • Ensuring the highest possible safety and hygiene measures at the clinic before, during and after your appointment
  • Post-procedure check-ups at your accommodation
  • Offering free ozone therapy treatments when undergoing a procedure at Oreme

Despite these challenging times, we encourage you to hold on to your goals and not surrender to the pandemic. We will do the same for our mission and vision.

Here are some tips to follow when traveling for medical purposes using any type of transportation:

Practice hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette. Before you leave, wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer with at least 70% alcohol.

Once you reach your destination, wash hands again, and/or use hand sanitizer as soon as possible.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or use the inside of your elbow. Throw used tissues in the trash and wash your hands immediately with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer with at least 70% alcohol.

Social distance. During not only during travel but at all times, try to keep at least 2 meters away from people who are not in your household, e.g. when waiting at a bus station or selecting seats on a train.

Always wear a mask when outside of your own house/accommodation, in public settings, public and mass transportation, at gatherings and anywhere you will be around other people.

Stay home when appropriate. If you are sick with Covid-19, have recently had a close contact to a person which is infected, or are waiting for COVID test results, avoid travelling at all.

Oreme does not support non-essential travels under any circumstances.
