Avoid Knee Replacement Surgery

Did you know that stem-cell treatment can greatly reduce the need for a knee replacement? Isn’t it better to let your body heal naturally?

Are you considering having knee replacement surgery? Did you know that stem-cell treatments can significantly reduce the need for knee replacements?

Regenerative medicine doctors have the ability to take stem cells from a patient and inject them in their knee to grow new cartilage, avoiding the need for knee replacement surgery! This treatment can relieve knee pain and increase a patient’s activity level without performing any kind of surgery. Here at Oreme clinic can we offer this alternative to knee replacements!

If you are suffering from mild arthritis, precise injections of a super concentrated form of platelet-rich plasma can be a surgery-free solution to your condition. There is no need for prolonged physiotherapy sessions, as the treatment avoids the need for an artificial implant and the regrown cartilage can last a patient’s lifetime.

Many patients have also tried steroid injections or gel shots to lubricate the knee joint, not knowing that they actually destroy the cartilage cells in the process.

Here are 5 reasons why in most cases neither steroid shots nor surgery are the right way to recovery:

1. Most people don’t return to normal physical activity after surgery.

Many studies show that only 5% or less, just 1 in 20 people, actually achieve anything even approaching normal physical activity. This research actually used activity trackers worn by patients to compare what they thought they should be able to do once their joint was replaced versus the level of activity they were actually able to achieve.

2. Chronic pain continues after knee replacement.

The main reason most people finally come to the decision to undergo knee replacement surgery is to relieve their chronic knee pain. Did you know that one-third of knee replacements are unnecessary, because the source of the knee pain isn’t a knee condition? This is one reason why chronic pain may not subside following knee replacement. If you have your knee replaced, but the pain was being caused by a lower back issue – the nerves or tendons, for example – it stands to reason that your pain will not go away after a knee replacement.

3. Allergies can lead to device failure and more pain.

Based on recent research, patients that have any type of allergy, even it is a simple one like pollen or cat dander, should avoid a knee replacement. People who are considered to be “allergic” (to anything) simply have a hyperactive immune system and inappropriately secrete antibodies to rid themselves of the thing they have mistaken as dangerous. If that thing is a joint replacement device, obviously that drastically affects the outcome. So, if you are allergic, the device is more likely to fail, cause chronic pain, or need to be replaced sooner.

4. Knee replacement increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.

When you completely remove a joint from the patient, there is serve trauma to the blood vessels and bone marrow space. This likely leads to a higher risk of blood clots which could cause an embolism in the heart, lungs or brain. Blood clots in the legs that produced symptoms were in 34% of patients!

5. Metal ions in the blood can lead to pseudotumors and tissue damage.

Wear particles are microscopic pieces of metal, ceramic, or plastic that break off of the joint replacement and irritate the local tissues and/or enter the bloodstream, causing severe intoxications.

A research group in Germany found that metal ions in the blood increased precipitously after a knee prosthesis was implanted. Even in one episode of the popular TV series “House” the doctor helped diagnose metal ion intoxication. After this episode, more and more doctors started to study the intoxications caused by metal implants.

Since we offer alternative options, you may want to just say no for now to a knee replacement while exploring your alternatives and sign up for a consultation with our orthopedic and spine surgeon Rolandas Janušas and his team!

A knee replacement is a really big operation. It takes a lot time to recover and it may not help in the end. Stem cell therapy can help patients heal more quickly, as there are more cells to rebuild tissues with. Isn’t it better to let your body heal naturally?
